ARTIST’S BACKGROUND
London based since the mid eighties, Antonio Dias Ribeiro was born in Portugal and has travelled extensively and worked in different countries. Coming from an educational and professional background in marketing, journalism and translation, he fully embraced the art world in the early nineties, building up on his knowledge from a previous glass and ceramics diploma course attended during his early twenties. He has post graduations in Glass & Fine Art and Glass & Architecture, and a Masters in Art in Architecture. He won the Chase/Saint Martins 2001 award for art and architectural glass, followed by similar awards from London Arts Board for glass and ceramics and the England Arts Council for contemporary mosaic work. His work is regularly shown at public galleries, museums and public spaces.
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
During 2003-2005, Antonio has frequently visited Muscat, concentrating on his own project. This includes a series of art and culture events such as seminars, intensive course, exhibitions, Open Studio days and collaborative ventures with Omani, British and Portugese artists invited to visit and show their work in each other’s country. He has created and conducted an intensive course in Mosaic from beginners to advanced/architectural level on behalf of the Omani Government's Organisation for Youth Sports and Culture with participants from all over Oman and including a high profile final exhibition.
