ARTIST’S BACKGROUND

I first became inspired by glass whilst travelling through a medieval town called Obidos in Portugal, which lead me on my journey to practice this form of art for myself. I began in September 2004 at the Richmond Adult Community College, where I have practiced a wide variety of techniques including fusing, casting and slumping.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

Many of my pieces are inspired by colour referring to Japanese art that use red and gold colours. In particular I like bright and bold colours that attract the eye in contrast to darker colours. I like having bold shapes and sharp lines in my pieces whether simple or complex. I also like my pieces to flow and have the feeling of movement.

I regularly spend my spare time looking through books, around museums and art galleries in search of further inspiration and ideas. I often adapt ideas originated from other materials such as clay, metal and artwork into glass based designs with my own personal touches.
