ARTIST'S BACKGROUND

Having studied and made ceramics for a number of years I became interested in glass in the last year of my HND. The possibilities of this medium complimented and challenged my ceramic style and I now work mainly in glass.

ARTIST'S STATEMENT

These pieces are based on traditional religious imagery and iconography capturing the ambience of spirituality where contemplation and quietness are an antidote to a fast and threatening world. My inspiration draws on religious artefacts such as shrines, relics and icons but the work is devoid of overtly religious meaning or content - the mood becomes as important as the subject itself. The aim is to deconstruct rituals and ritualistic objects - to evoke an absence of obvious purpose letting the viewer decide for themselves on the pieces’ exact meaning.
