ARTIST’S BACKGROUND

Jessica specialised in Classical Art and Architecture at London University. She also studied Life Drawing at the City and Guilds, Kennington, followed by Photography and Print at the University of Stuttgart. This led to a job at the State Art Gallery and to work for the prestigious German art publishers Dumont.

In the 1990s Jessica was based in Portugal and studied in Lisbon in 1992. Her first public exhibition was held at Lisbon’s Galeria das Olarias in 1992. Since then she has undertaken a wide variety of commissioned work including large-scale commercial mural designs for businesses and restaurants in London. Jessica also produces hanging sculptures and mobiles.

Exhibitions at home and in local galleries have produced increasing interest in her illuminated sculptures culminating in a solo exhibition at the Karoo Gallery, Pimlico in 2003. She has been making glass for several years, and in 2004 her piece 'Trio' was exhibited in the V&A Museum's 'Inspired By'.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

My glass pieces have been inspired by a range of found objects, marine creatures and natural forms. Pebbles, fish and wave shapes recur in my work in all media. The bewitching and calming effects of water are a dominant theme and I attempt to create peace from the interplay of light and shadow.
