ARTIST'S STATEMENT
Tracy is a glass artist whose work is primarily concerned with exploring nature’s darker side; death, disease, erosion and the fragile beauty they possess. She draws her inspiration from scientific images of diseases such as cancer and osteoporosis, which are not generally associated with beauty. Yet, when cancer cells are photographed under the microscope they have a vibrant delicacy with almost floral qualities and osteoporotic bone fragments appear like lace.
Creating work that conveys this aesthetic, yet also hints at something more sinister lying beneath the surface Tracy aims to challenge the perception of what is considered beautiful.
Tracy's most recent body of work uses scientific images of eroding bone fragments, which are not generally associated with beauty. Yet, when photographed under the microscope can possess a lace-like delicacy which belies the strength necessary to support the body.
Intricate panels are created from hand cut opaque glass, exploiting its inherent qualities of strength, fragility, sensuality and allure. Layered together, the complex structures possess a penetrability and depth which draw the viewer deeper inside to investigate further.
