ARTIST'S BACKGROUND

I first experienced working with glass in a ‘taster’ session on an Art Foundation course I began in 2001. I was immediately captivated by the expressive potential of the medium. My work has always capitalized on my love of drawing and I enjoy exploring the variety of different processes through which this can be expressed. I started a part-time Fine Art degree course but eventually decided in 2005 to study 3D glass at Richmond School of Art.

ARTIST'S STATEMENT

My work has evolved from my enthusiasm for the apparently magical alchemy that results from combining glass and metal. I use metal in the form of leaf and wire to ‘draw’ in glass as I want my glass pieces to be expressive, reflecting a palette of rich colours with a real painterly quality about them. My imagery comes from sources that particularly excite me such as the stylized forms in Islamic art and the repetitive patterns often seen in textile design. The results are always unpredictable, no two pieces being the same. I have produced kiln formed glass pictures, individually framed and in a variety of sizes. Most recently my work has included bowls and some free standing sculptural pieces. I regularly open my studio during the annual Oxfordshire 'Artweeks'.
