ARTIST'S STATEMENT
My special interest is in making pieces that form an inherent part of the environments, both exterior and interior, lived in and used by people aiming to bring a soulfulness to the everyday spaces we spend our lives in. It is my experience of painting as well as interest in architecture that led me to the way I work - usually large and often consisting of layers of overlapping colour that can draw you in to feeling immersed in the image. Though typically abstract it clearly emerges from my keenly felt everyday relationship with my surroundings as well as that which starts to form between the developing piece and the person or place for which it is intended. In addition to the public work already mentioned private commissions include substantial indoor and outdoor sculptures in addition to specific architectural installations such as doors and windows. ARTIST'S BACKGROUND
Background in fine art, studying for three years at St Martins and Maidstone schools of art. I completed a yearlong City & Guilds stained glass course in 2002 going on to attend various kiln forming and other residential courses through CGS and Creative Glass Rochester - setting up my own studio in 2003 and becoming professional a year or two later. In 2020 my first public piece “A Wing And A Prayer” was installed with funds raised from ACE, Suffolk Council, private trusts and individuals. It has received outstanding attention. A new piece for Ipswich Hospital was unveiled in June 2024. I launched my new, much larger, studio in 2014 having relocated to Suffolk (from Devon). Alongside a busy creative practise I run monthly classes for a fabulous group of glass enthusiasts!
