ARTIST'S STATEMENT
I have not settled into one single style or “voice” but rather am continually seeking to stretch boundaries, to make using novel and fresh techniques. I am drawn to work on a small scale – such as the tiny 7cm-high buildings in my “Cityscape” series – and variety, such as the cacti in a Cactus Garden, which uses many different kinds of glass and as many techniques as I could think of. My work ranges from decorative (I am currently engaged on a series of surreal/deco/surreal multiple faces) to functional (dishes, trays, plates etc.); from experimental (the “Fragile Freedom” cube) to conventional (those dishes, trays, plates etc. again, plus lampshades, vases, front door and fanlights). Whenever I can, I make my own moulds and tools, for example the moulds for the eyelashes in my series of multiple faces. CONTACT email: [email protected] Instagram: marcfresko |
ARTIST'S BACKGROUND
Maybe it is because I graduated with a degree in Engineering Science that I have always made things. Or maybe it is the other way around, who knows… For as long as I can remember, I have simply not felt fulfilled unless I have at least one “making” project in progress. And since my earliest adult years I have been fascinated by glass, in its many of its varied forms. Eventually I took two kiln working courses; since then I have attacked the challenge of fusing, slumping and cold working, working in my home studio in North West London. I feel fortunate that my engineering background has been incredibly useful in understanding the technicalities of cutting, fusing and slumping glass. My works have featured in several exhibitions and have won two awards.
