ARTIST'S STATEMENT
I come from a background of Fine Art and have worked in various mediums, including painting, textiles and illustration, before discovering glass. I like to combine several glass disciplines in my practice, mixing kiln formed glass with painted pattern, using fused glass elements within leaded or copper foiled panels, textured glass as another way of drawing. My work is mainly figurative and includes abstracted elements that allow me to explore pattern, surface and decoration. My pieces are detailed, intimate and decorative, often with a sense of 'otherworldliness' While I also work with painted glass and leaded lights, I continue to explore ways of casting, trying to find solutions to my limited resources, (at the moment, I have no space to work with lost wax.) Recently I’ve been experimenting with two part moulds and hope to create simple but evocative small castings of objects that are meaningful to me. ARTIST'S BACKGROUND
I am a London based Artist who originally trained as a painter at St Martins School of Art. After I started teaching glass at Lewisham I became interested in all the disciplines it offered and began to explore small open castings of glass. I evolved a style of open casting where the models were produced initially in plasticine. Some of my modelling techniques involve the use of objects, that I have in my studio, and incorporate into my work, such as small plastic dolls, that became the Goddess Dolls.
I further developed this technique when I embarked on a collaboration with Clive Hicks-Jenkins. I interpret some of his beautiful drawings into glass. These little jewel like figurines have become part of my work practice and are very popular. I work on these while developing further my own projects.
