ARTIST'S STATEMENT
I am a hot blown and sculpted glass artist but also love learning and creating warm glass - especially cast and fused which I want to develop more. I also enjoy creating varied and interesting cold working effects. I favour substantial, sculptural art pieces, often with beautiful colours encased within clear glass with its gorgeous refractive properties. My work is inspired by wilderness and the nature it contains. I particularly focus on seasides, oceans and waves and the astounding life they contain as well as the Polar Regions, icebergs and mountains and even planets and stars. I want to portray the beauty of these inspirations but also their fragility in my work and to engage and inspire my audience with a strong motivation to care and protect these valuable natural assets. ARTIST'S BACKGROUND
I first encountered and was mesmerised by glass during my previous packaging career as the owner of a consumer goods packaging development consultancy where I saw industrial scale production of bottles and jars and mammoth swimming pool sized furnaces. That got me hooked! I started blowing hot glass in 2012 and in 2018 I jumped ship and left packaging to focus full time on making glass. I trained across the UK with some of the UK’s pre-eminent glass blowers and hire studios for one to one tuition. I love attending relevant and inspiring masterclasses in all glass. I live in South Buckinghamshire and make glass in various studios throughout the UK. I am developing not only my hot glass skills but also expanding into warm glass and cold working. I have recently built and am kitting out my own cold work shop and will install warm glass kilns too.
