ARTIST'S STATEMENT
Having long been involved with architectural glass (including slumping and fusing), more recently I have moved into casting glass and find that I have more freedom to develop personal ideas – a discipline on which I am now mainly focusing. For the last few years, I have been dealing with the themes of conflict in my work. This encompasses actual world conflict, war and destruction but also at a more local level, personal conflict and resolution. Glass is a wonderful material and medium to bring to life ideas and narratives that highlight contemporary issues and events, drawing viewers into not only enjoy the material, but to dwell on subjects that concern us all. ARTIST'S BACKGROUND
Annie started working in fine art after doing both her BA degree and MA at the Slade School of Fine Art, London. She also gained a further MA, developing a light sensitive acid-etch resist for flashed glass. Annie then worked for the Architectural Glass Company, Goddard and Gibbs, as a designer and craftsman and stayed there for many years although she also established her own studio in parallel. Annie is now much more interested in casting glass, which is taking her back to her fine art roots.
