ARTIST'S STATEMENT
Claire Hall trained in Fine Art Sculpture in wood and steel and transitioned to glass whilst living in the remote mountains of West Virginia during the 1990s. Inspired by the local fused glass community Claire taught herself flame working and her passion for glass was born. Claire teaches landscape inspired glass courses, most recently at Pittsburgh Glass Centre, USA and is part of the Online Masterclass Programme at Warm Glass UK. She has been invited back to Denmark this September for a presentation at the national glass conference. She is a member of GAS, CGS, The Somerset Guild and Co-Chair of North Somerset Arts, where she lives. Her glass sculptural installations and jewellery are exhibited internationally. The installation In Search of Peace - Ēnso Series is part of the permanent collection at The Imagine Museum, Florida. Her work has been selected for many UK exhibitions including the British Glass Biennale. Claire also works on community projects, most notably a commission to create an installation of 52 glass postcards for the re-opening of Weston-Super-Mare High Street. Inspired by the vast expansive beaches and skies of the southwest coastline, her work captures remembered sensations and experiences within the landscape. She creates instinctively, beginning with deep reflection and thought. The process of drawing and making become a cathartic and meditative process enabling the unconscious mind to flow. Duality is often a recurrent theme within her work, recording fragility and strength, the rough and the smooth, the light and darkness, of the material itself and of the human condition. www.clairehall.co.uk/ |
