ARTIST'S STATEMENT
After a career in tourism and hotel management an evening class in stained glass was a catalyst for a career change! Deborah has exhibited at the Coburg Glass Prize 2014: the International Glass Art Bienniel in Belgium; Vitrum Balticum in Lithuania; and five times at the British Glass Biennale, as well as winning several awards in China’s Craft Glass Creation and Design Competition, 2021. A piece is in the permanent collection at the Museum of Design and Contemporary Applied Arts, Lausanne, Switzerland. She is a member of Design Nation, Society of Designer Craftsmen and Craft Potters Association. She shows at various national craft shows - Handmade in Britain, Contemporary Craft Festival, Lustre and Made. Also exhibiting at national galleries including the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, Bath Society of Artists and several Discerning Eye exhibitions at the Mall Galleries. Her work is available from London Glassblowing. Deborah’s glass reflects an absorption with the material creating pieces with a strong sense of place or concept. Rocky Sculptures explore the beauty of both the natural landscape and mans’ interventions within the landscape. They include stone bridges over water, harbour walls, rocky outcrops and dry-stone walling. Other major series include ‘A dialogue at the threshold’, sculptures which draw the viewer into an inner space. Deborah’s theme ‘An ode to Alzheimer’s’ is about life’s memories and takes Fabergé eggs as a metaphor to celebrate enlightenment in contrast with pieces which reflect the loss of all we hold precious. www.deborahtimperley.co.uk/ |
