ARTIST'S STATEMENT
Over the last 25 years I’ve explored many ways of working with glass and imagery. Rocky outcrops explore the beauty of stone bridges, harbour walls and rocky outcrops. Compositions are evocative of the landscape and suggest rocks and stones placed harmoniously together, contrasting defined edges with the softness of adjacent vegetation. The blocks of colour echo the surrounding landscape, water and sky. Other major series include ‘A dialogue at the threshold - sculptures which draw the viewer into an inner space, by the allure of 23.5ct gold, or make the viewer implicitly aware of what lies beneath the surface. These are inspired by reliquaries, stone tablets and middle eastern buildings where the outer form is austere, cloaking a highly decorative interior. ARTIST'S BACKGROUND
I specialise in one-off glass sculptures, usually lost wax or open cast. My work is related to themes and my research is a way of finding new ways to express my subject. I enjoy using my camera and have recently visited the Isle of Skye, Pembrokeshire and the Isles of Scilly as part of my exploration for my rocky sculptures.
My workshop is on the Borde Hill Garden Estate north of Haywards Heath in West Sussex. It’s a converted stable, a great place to work creatively.
