ARTIST'S STATEMENT
In glass, I have found an all-absorbing passion and discovered my metier as an artist. I am fascinated by the way in which light affects coloured glass and the wonderful, reflected patterns that it can produce as well as its precise nature. Most of my work focuses on subjects abstracted from nature or the human figure. Sometimes the glass itself is my inspiration. As a child I lived by the sea and was fascinated by islands and rock formations and now by how to interpret them in kiln formed glass. I enjoy designing and making three dimensional pieces especially if they are functional as well as decorative. I have a particular interest in architectural glass. ARTIST'S BACKGROUND
I am a chartered architect, registered in my maiden name Campbell. I retired when my husband was terminally ill and went part time to Kensington and Chelsea College ( KCC ) to study art. After my pre foundation year there I did a degree in Public Art and Design. Then I went back to KCC for several years to learn about glass and gain further qualifications in glass design.
I share a studio with another glass artist and my commissions have included panels for window and doors, garden sculpture, light fittings, platters, and jewellery. My main interest lies in kiln formed glass which I sometimes combine with techniques like leading, sandblasting and painting.
