ARTIST'S STATEMENT
I work predominantly with glass powders, frits and enamels to create uniquely atmospheric pieces each time. I have a passion for screen printing on glass and the use of welsh language in much of my work is especially important to me. The screen printed poetry and text work with the glass to create pieces that tell a story and instil a sense of mystery and intrigue. My work hints at our memories of people, places and times past that we can no longer see, touch or return to, yet we still feel what remains below the surface. This is particularly relevant in my work which pays homage to the drowning of the village of Capel Celyn and the Tryweryn Valley, with screen printed Welsh poetry. My glass landscape work has naturally evolved with development of my range of washbasins, splash-backs and tiles which are more abstract in nature. ARTIST'S BACKGROUND
Since graduating as a Master of Design specialising in Glass Art I have worked as Artist in Residence for the Applied Arts department at Glyndwr University. I draw inspiration from the wild and windswept places of my childhood in North and Mid Wales. I have always had a love for the natural world, the changing seasons and how the light, textures and colours change with the weather. My childhood was a time of wonder and creativity with parents who encouraged art and instilled an appreciation for the beauty of the natural world, music, poetry and literature. I hope my work conjures a nostalgia, and my use of fragments of text represent fragments of moments in time and poignant memories and a sense of familiarity.
