He won the 2019 British Glass Biennale and Second Prize in the 2014 Coburg Prize for Contemporary Glass, Europe’s largest prize for artists working with glass. He was the 2014 Stephen Procter Fellow at the Australian National University and has done residences at The Creative Glass Centre of America (Wheaton), North Lands Creative Glass (UK) and Bullseye Projects (Portland). His work is in the permanent collections of the Victoria & Albert Museum, London; the European Museum for Modern Glass in Germany; the Portheimka Museum (Prague), the Stourbridge Glass Museum, the Museum of American Glass, and others. He teaches in Edinburgh, where he co-runs Glass Lab Edinburgh, and has lead masterclasses and workshops including Pilchuck (US), North Lands Creative Glass (UK), Bild-Werk Frauenau (DE), Berlin Glas (DE). Jeff creates works that explore ambiguity, morality and mortality in contemporary society and politics, and engage with the material and symbolic properties of glass, as well as the sensual experiences of mystery, light and shadow. He combines techniques of glass painting, laser etching, contemporary lighting, and the transparency of glass to create dynamic scenes that appear to shift, dissolve and transform depending on the position of the viewer. www.jeffxzimmer.com/ |
