ARTIST'S STATEMENT
My first degree is archaeology and as an archaeologist I worked on excavations around Southwark and around the City through the early 1980’s. My MA and residency concentrated on the concept that we all leave a trace, a memory. As a result, much of my glass practice has been informed by considering how everyday objects change in purpose over time. From practical use to the object being lost and rediscovered and displayed as artefacts. My cast layered works reference my archaeological background where the glass contains ethereal but illegible artefacts floating in layers of colour and clear glass. Surface textures were cast from archaeological remains during excavations. CONTACT www.facebook.com/JoannaLloydGlass www.joannalloydglass.co.uk |
ARTIST'S BACKGROUND
I have had careers in archaeology and landscape planning. After retiring from competitive sport (rowing) I returned to education to pursue a more creative life, being drawn to the vibrancy and materiality of glass.
