ARTIST'S STATEMENT
My main medium is warm glass, I like the fluidity of the material and the strength and fragility it combines. I am currently working on combining pewter with glass to create a body of work that tells a story of memory loss, for my final exhibition as well as a collaboration with a fellow artist to recreate the birth of penicillin, using the same techniques. I take inspiration from memories, be it holidays, relatives no longer alive or childhood memories. I am also interested in the human mind; how powerful it is and how traumatic events or childhoods can influence adult life. I like my work to be thought provoking and reflect these memories and project them to the viewer to either see my memories or be reminded of their own. CONTACT www.kayfordglassandmetal.com |
ARTIST'S BACKGROUND
I am a glass artist and pewter smith. I am currently a third-year student at The University Centre Hastings doing a BA Designer Maker Degree. I had been due to graduate in June 2020 but due to the national lockdown this has been put on hold until next year. In May 2019 I received first prize in the decorative arts student section of Pewter live and a commended in the students open section. I have 5 children and my niece (who lives with me following the death of my sister to cystic fibrosis). I love to create and use it as my means of escape.
