ARTIST'S STATEMENT
I make a range of fused glass tableware, lighting and sculpture, mostly abstract and asymmetrical. I am inspired by art (strong modernist influence), design, jewellery, fashion - almost anything I see that I think might work in glass. Although I continue to make one-off serving pieces, lighting and sculptures, I have developed a "signature" range of off-set circle bowls, which I sell through shops and at craft fairs. My larger signature pieces are mainly sold at art galleries and through Cockpit Arts Open Studios. CONTACT [email protected] |
ARTIST'S BACKGROUND
Through all my years working (planner, academic, marketing, arts fundraising) I have looked to adult education centres to enrich my life with hands on art and craft courses. In 2011 I discovered fused glass via The Mary Ward Centre, and fell in love with it as a medium. The timing was perfect as I was winding down my consulting business and after a couple of years taking courses (and latterly firing extra work in the kiln of a professional glass artist) I decided to see if I could myself become a professional glass artist. I applied for a place in the business incubator programme at Cockpit Arts, was accepted, and since July 2014 have had my own studio there, where I continue to experiment and explore this lovely (though sometimes frustrating) medium.
