ARTIST'S STATEMENT
My art takes inspiration from the early symptoms of Macular degeneration. People with this sight deficiency can experience visual distortions such as warped lines and movement, akin to viewing an optical illusion. I create immersive experiences that simulates the full body experience of having macular degeneration. The outcome are captivating installations with geometric repeat patterns mostly made from metal and glass. I fill the space in between and the viewer becomes a participator. ARTIST'S BACKGROUND
I create visually stimulating and immersive installations using mixed media, with a focus on technical materials, often using glass. My interests are in representing the early symptoms of Macular Degeneration. Warped lines and movement are experienced, like an optical illusion. I use this as inspiration for my work, playing with recreating symptoms.
I love the mouldability of metal and the fragility of glass. I enjoy exploring the possibilities of both materials, pushing the boundaries of what is technically achievable. The interaction between the viewer and the object is very important to me. I want my work to be an experience!
I thrive in an environment surrounded by like-minded people interested in glass and art. An important aspect of my working practice is to continuously question my decisions and re-evaluate through discussions, I hope that joining ‘Just Glass’ will bring some of this personal contact but also exhibition possibilities.
