ARTIST'S STATEMENT
My Jewellery explores chemical reactions, between silver & coloured glass. My fused glass flowers & lilies are inspired by my love of colourful & scented flowers. The bowls are experiments in combining colours, technique & texture. The highly polished cast shapes represent ice sculptures, the dichroic veiling within inspired by the Aurora Borealis. The cast face is part of a developing range of work, inspired by both visiting the V&A 'Disobedient Objects' exhibition and the news in 2014 that ISIS had trapped 140,000 Yezidi people up Sinjar Mountain in Iraq. The stories that came out of their abhorrent and brutal treatment of the women and children in particular, and since then the Syrian women and children also, led to a desire to show the fragility and suffering of the humans caught up in this and the strength of family. Also referencing the amazing art of Syrian artists in exile. |
ARTIST'S BACKGROUND
I started working with glass in 2010 & bought my first kiln. I have become increasingly passionate about glass as a material, and in pushing my knowledge and skills as far as possible. I draw
inspiration from the world about me, not only the natural world, but also humanity.
I love playing with colour, light and experimenting with new techniques, combining them together to make individual pieces.
I began a cast glass course at WAES in 2013 and instantly loved working in 3D, doing Btechs 1, 2 and 3. I want to do much more and so have set up my own casting studio.
Before this I spent 17 years in Education, working with children who had special needs, both behavioural and physical.
I now really enjoy teaching others glass skills in my studio and seeing them become inspired by the material.
