ARTIST'S STATEMENT
My current Reactive Landscapes series combine my detailed knowledge of the reactive chemical properties of glass with various metals to create abstract natural world pieces of unique artwork. With extensive testing I predict and use the combinations to create the desired look and feel, however there is still an element of anticipation and excitement after each firing as variables play their part, and no two pieces will ever react in precisely the same way. Nature has always been a strong inspiration for me - from the wide open skies of East Anglia/Lincolnshire to the rolling beauty of the Surrey hills, and the more dramatic peaks of my Scottish highland visits - I love to combine my passion for landscapes with the wonders of glass. Pieces of my current series have been bought by customers in the UK, South Africa and the USA. CONTACT [email protected] www.rachelcraigglass.com www.instagram.com/rachelcraigglass |
ARTIST'S BACKGROUND
I am a kiln-formed glass artist from Suffolk currently living in Surrey. Qualifications and knowledge gained from Adult Education classes as well as a Higher Education certificate in glass and ceramics (awarded by the University for the Creative Art, Farnham) and specialist courses with several international glass artists have inspired me to explore the fascinating way the chemical properties of glass can be used in combination with fine metal sheets to generate additional colours and textures. I am a member of the Contemporary Glass Society and have exhibited in a number of shows over the last few years.
