ARTIST'S STATEMENT
I am inspired by the natural world in all its glorious colours, textures and forms. I make sculptural pieces such as cast glass ammonites, as well as wall panels and some tableware. Recently I made a series of wall panels using the concept of palimpsests, asking the viewer to question what is beneath our feet, homes/businesses/cities. Currently I am making a series of torsos looking at the environment and the human impact on it. The idea is that at first glance, the pieces look attractive in terms of its colours, then on closer inspection, the detail shows the impact that humans have had, and finally the shape, a human torso becomes apparent as it emerges through the image. ARTIST'S BACKGROUND
When I started evening classes in fused glass, I was immediately hooked and as soon as I retired from lecturing in law in 2014, my retirement present to myself was a kiln and I set up my own studio in my garden. Having my own kiln opened up a wide range of experimental opportunities in fusing and in time, lost wax casting. I keep a detailed kiln diary which assists in developing my skills. At first, the pieces I made were in my home or gifts to friends, but I was delighted when people asked to buy the glass I was making. It is such a buzz when someone values my glass. I am always learning and would welcome the opportunity to be a member of Just Glass so that I can share ideas and techniques with other members as well as contine to learn and create.
