ARTIST'S STATEMENT
To me glass is all about experimenting. I am always fascinated to see how such a stiff unresponsive medium can be transformed into something with movement and luminosity, with intriguing visual depths and reactions to light. It is the technical and artistic challenges of this journey that inspire me. My work is usually an abstract expression of an emotion or feeling and inspired by the forms of nature and abstract sculpture. I enjoy exploring the contrast between organic and geometric forms and textures and highlighting these by the use of colour. |
ARTIST'S BACKGROUND
Although originally a scientist I took up glass in 2014 at WAES. WAES shut its doors to glass in 2017 so since then I have kept up my interest by attending masterclasses with various artists such as Vladimir Klein, Martin Rosol, Fiaz Elsom and Max Jaquard, and remaining in contact with our class group to arrange learning opportunities such as talks and visits. I enjoy the technical challenge of working with glass and think it is the ideal combination of art and science. I enjoy casting because I like abstract sculpture, but also enjoy the opportunities for colour placement afforded by fusing.
