ARTIST'S STATEMENT
I make kiln-formed sculptural glass and jewellery drawing inspiration from the patterns found in our natural and industrial heritage. Recreating textures from abandoned places being reclaimed by nature, fishing, tweed and crofting industries on the Isle of Harris, the landscapes of Iceland and the working farm that surrounds my Hampshire studio. I use a variety of techniques such as pate-de-verre and casting but currently I am using, sheet, granular and powdered glass, to make ‘drop out’ vessels that vary in size from 4cm - 40cm in diameter. I make a variety of jewellery using glass, silver and enamelled metals. The piece in one of the photos features "Memories of Harris" sold at the 2022 British Glass Biennale. I am currently working on a collection of 60 tiny vessels for 2023/4 around the theme "Now We Are 60". ARTIST'S BACKGROUND
I have developed my skills as a glass artist through experimentation following a broad range of masterclass courses with artists specialising in different techniques. These have been mostly glass but also include silversmithing, enamelling, printmaking and painting classes. I enjoy mixing techniques together to develop my own individual style drawing on the most relevant process to achieve the desired outcome.
My first career as graphic designer influences some designs by incorporating mark making, typography and printmaking, using methods such as silk screen printing, powder printing, lino printing and embossing. I was introduced to glass in 2000 and initially built up my practice part time, turning full time in 2011.
I built a studio at home and now teach approx. 90 people a year on beginner courses. I undertake commissions for kitchen splashbacks and corporate awards. I am a member of the Contemporary Glass Society (CGS), The Sussex Guild and the Hampshire and Berkshire Guild.
