ARTIST'S STATEMENT
My love of glass continues as I keep discovering its amazing versatility, how light can change a solid sculpture into a work that seems to cross dimensions and become just light and shadows. Although I am primarily influenced by colour, texture and the human form, I love to experiment, pushing the glass to its limits in an attempt to express my ideas. My inspiration comes from Ancient Egyptian art, modern dance, the sea and reflections, textiles, and photography. Fusing allows me to create forms from moulds using ceramic fibre, which have a textile, flowing quality. Sand casting gives me a deeper, more mysterious alchemic medium to pour into layers, creating more primitive sculptural pieces. My fused glass vessels distil my previous textile background into a continuing love of patterns, whilst in the more sculptural pieces I focus on emotions or moments trapped in time which the viewer can make their own. ARTIST'S BACKGROUND
As a former knitwear designer, I came to glass as a mature student having first taken a short course in ceramics. This then lead to many courses in various glass techniques and last year I finally bought my first kiln and have a studio in the garage. I have also done master classes in kiln casting glass with Colin Reid and Max Jacquard, sand casting and blowing courses at the University for the Creative Arts, Farnham, and now I do my sand casting at Parndon Mill in Harlow with Jon Lewis and Ewa Wawrzyniak.
I am a member of The Chelsea Art Society, The Association of Polish Artists in Great Britain, the HVA and the Contemporary Glass Society. I have exhibited at the Mall Galleries, Parndon Mill Gallery (Harlow), Royal Birmingham Society of Artists Gallery, and in various group exhibitions with societies of which I am a member.
